for parents
Parent Coaching
Parent coaching is for the adult. You bring the situation at home and leave with something to try. The exact words to use. A limit you can hold. Or a clearer idea of whether your child needs their own support.
what you get
- Specific words for the conversation you keep getting wrong
- A read on what is developmentally normal and what is worth worrying about
- Ways to stay connected through exam years, phones and silence
- A clear recommendation if your child would benefit from their own therapist
who it can help
You do not need a diagnosis to start.
- Parents of teenagers who have gone quiet, angry, or withdrawn
- Exam years, phone battles, and arguments that keep replaying
- Anyone unsure whether to worry, wait, or find their child a therapist
what happens
How your sessions will work.
What actually happens
You describe a recent scene in detail rather than in general, because the change is usually in the detail.
Something to say
You practise the opening lines, so the next conversation starts somewhere other than where the last one ended.
Decide together
If your child would be better served by their own therapist, you will be told plainly, and helped to raise it with them.
your therapy pathway
What the journey looks like.
Usually 3–6 sessions. Your child does not need to attend. This is the usual shape, not a contract. Your practitioner adjusts the pace to you, and you can pause or stop whenever you want.
Session 1
A recent scene
You describe one recent situation in detail, because what to change is usually in the detail.
Sessions 2–3
Something to say
You practise opening lines and limits you can hold, so the next conversation starts differently.
Middle sessions
Try and review
You try it at home and bring back what happened. You adjust the approach together.
Last session
Decide together
If your child would be better served by their own therapist, you are told plainly and helped to raise it.
common questions
Before you begin
No. This is your session. Many parents come without their child knowing.
